The renewable energy industry has seen a surge in activity across the globe. The Australian continent has the highest solar radiation per square metre for any continent and some of the best solar energy resources in the world. The regions with the highest solar radiation are the desert regions in the northwest and the centre.

According to the Clean Energy Australia Report 2021, the use of Solar energy in Australia has spiked. Australia had 27.7 per cent renewable energy within the country’s total electricity generation. This number was up by 3.7 per cent from 2019.

Australia receives an average of 58 million PJ of solar radiation per year, approximately 10,000 times larger than its total energy consumption. However, Australia’s current use of solar energy is low with solar energy accounting for only about 0.1 per cent of Australia’s total primary energy consumption. The most common use of solar energy is solar thermal water heating. Solar PV systems play an important role in off-grid electricity generation in remote areas.

Advantages of focusing on renewable energy resources

There are notable advantages of using renewable energy and sustainable energy. To begin with, it does have a more positive impact on the environment as it typically emits little to no greenhouse gas or other harmful pollutants that can cause respiratory and cardiac issues in people.

Renewable energy also generally requires less machinery maintenance and is less likely to run out compared to fossil fuels. Naturally sourced energy also allows Australia to be less reliant on foreign countries for energy supplies.

Demand for renewable energy technicians


Australia’s rapidly growing renewable energy industry will create thousands of jobs over the next decade for people who study and complete Renewable energy courses offered by PMV. To get an accurate sense of the scale and nature of this boost for employment, the Clean Energy Council commissioned ISF to conduct research on current practices and make informed projections for the future.

Key Findings:

  • “Green” jobs in the renewable energy industry are seeing a spike in popularity, with plenty of lucrative roles expected to be in demand through 2026.
  • Renewable energy currently employs more people than the domestic coal sector – and employment would be comparable to the entire coal workforce under AEMO’s renewable growth scenarios.
  • Around 75 per cent of renewable energy job opportunities by 2035 could be distributed across regional and rural Australia, after completion of a Renewable energy course.
